Interviewer: When you hear the word "cult," what comes to your mind?
Interviewee: Charles Manson — and CIA.
Interviewer: Great — can you explain what you feel is cult-like about these things?
Interviewee: So, about Charles Manson, I think — because he ran the cult, I don't know how to explain it — he killed a bunch of people, thinking that he was serving some type of ulterior motive. I guess — or not, yeah — because also, there was no reason to kill them, but he did it anyway. And he had a bunch of people running after him doing that stuff.
Interviewee: ...And MK Ultra
Interviewer: Can you say more, like what you really associate with that?
Interviewee: So MK Ultra — was a secret program, an entirely secret American intelligence program. And there's a theory that he [Manson] was one of the subjects there, and basically they tried to create personality disorders from scratch, and they'd torture people. And there's a theory — we don't know, maybe it's a conspiracy theory — that some of them, like Charles Manson, started a cult, or like, uh, Brian Jones. Yeah, always like the '60s, '70s — and I think this kind of thing in America is also related to Cold War paranoia. Yeah.
